Partner Spotlight: Frank Sandelov on Innovation and Sustainability in EFFECTOR

• Who are you (name, function and role into the project)? 

  Frank Sandeloev, CEO of CardLab innovation ApS where we will be testing the EFFECTOR product outcome in a biometric card with an internal power source being the Super capacitor from Innocell. Personally I will be the CardLab project Manager in the EFFECTOR project.

 

• What’s your background (academic and professional)? 

I’m an industry professional with background in military, aviation and biometric industry.

 

• What’s your organization doing? In which field? 

CardLab is providing biometric “Authentication as a Service” helping enterprises, private & public organizations and others to transfer logical and physical check-in to passwordless solution where you only provide your fingerprint on our biometric card. Once the fingerprint is recognized en encrypted one-time code is created to identify the user online in our authentication system.

CardLab provides both the microelectronic development and manufacturing of the biometric cards and the backend solution for final identity verification and authentication before allowed access to the requested operational system.

 

• Which kind of products or services are you providing, and how do they meet your customers’ needs?  

We provide the biometric cards for the users offline identity verification and the related software to operate the in card embedded minicomputer that verifies the fingerprint and creates the encrypted digital one-time signature of the user.

We also deliver the backend authentication service that verifies the user and via API’s tap into customer systems to ensure users are biometrically verified before gaining access to the companies network, data, facilities etc.

This is meeting the demand for a convenient and strong Cybersecurity tool to protect company data, user identity and property access in physical and logical terms. It is probably the strongest Cyber security tool in the market today and provides further customer benefits in form of certified FIDO logon, no more use of passwords, fastest Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) and makes blockchain AML and KYC requirement compliant.

 

• What does your company bring to the EFFECTOR project? 

CardLab brings an existing card platform to the project for testing the EFFECTOR solution in realtime environments to obtain a more environmental and economic charging solution to Electronic Smart cards.

CardLab also brings in expertise in microelectronic development and manufacturing, We bring in a lot of knowledge around materials used in the electronic card business and thereby also significant knowledge around what will be the market demand and possible use cases inside CardLab line of business when a final EFFECTOR product is in place.

 

• What does innovation mean to you? 

To me Innovation is a constructive and structured process bringing in all known knowledge and remove the limits for how this is expected to be used or could work together. It is “out of box” thinking and using the structured process to get something useful out of the unlimited thought process.

 

• How do you see the future for energy, electronics and IoT? 

IOT and energy demand will be a big challenge of the future and to some extent already is a challange together with poor IOT security as IOT devices more frequently are involved in Cyber attacks. To move to a digital society will require connectivity which again requires power available. It is going to be a huge focus area of the future as it concerns and affects us all and will require a significant development of smart solutions for security and sustainability.

 

• How does the EFFECTOR project offer a solution for a better future? 

The EFFECTOR project is highly relevant as it develops an energy source that today only can be supplied by batteries or direct power connections which imposes restrictions on the digitalization and ability to do it in a secure, convenient and sustainable way. EFFECTOR project provides a solution that will save millions of hours in cabling work for IOT solutions if it cannot operate wirelessly. EFFECTOR is a more sustainable solution as it provides:

• • Less use of hardware (wiring)
  • Eliminates environmental polution as batteries are replaced by a organic supercap
  • Significant power savings as the OPV constantly delivers power from ambient light
  • Easier recycling of electronic products with less hazardous materials

 

• What are your hobbies or passions, or do you have an anecdote to share with us? 

My big passion is glider flying which is another way of profiting from natures’ own energy source where the sun radiation heats up the ground that then create the thermals and make flying for many hours possible without using a single drop of fossils or other types of energy.

Glider flying has been my passion for the last 50 years and once you have tried it you will know why the birds are singing.
